The Modern Luxury Of Celebrity Cruises

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to take a tour aboard Celebrity Cruise’s newest ship, the Celebrity Reflection. As the line’s newest and most modern ship, the Celebrity Reflection is perhaps the best ship in the fleet exemplifying Celebrity’s experience of “Modern Luxury.”

From the moment I stepped aboard the Celebrity Reflection, it was already evident that the ship was inherently different compared to other premium and luxury cruise ships I have sailed aboard in the past. Looking around, the decor and style of architecture was of a different caliber: modern, minimalist, and yet upscale. From the lighting features, to the wall panels, and even the carpeting, I could already tell this ship was truly unique in its offering.

As I continued to walk through the ship, I came upon a number of small restaurant, bars, and lounges purposely placed in “hubs,” such as the atrium and Celebrity Square. These bars and restaurants, however, weren’t your typical “booze and grub spots.” Cellar Masters, with an underground cellar feel, offered a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere for guests to relax in large, comfy chairs and indulge in wines from vineyards found around the world. Across the atrium at Bistro On Five, guests enjoyed dining on European style crepes, paninis, soups, and salads in a warm and light atmosphere. Down a few decks, below the branches of the tree stretching through the atrium, guests enjoyed chilled martinis and a show from the talented and inviting bartenders at the Martini Bar.

Higher up, above the Lido Deck, guests sprawled out on real, lush, green grass at The Lawn Club. With a number of wooden lawn chairs, private cabanas, and even picnic baskets, guests can enjoy a truly unique and innovative experience not found aboard any other ship. Looking over the Lawn Club, I found another quaint, and upscale dining spot, The Lawn Club Grill. Serving classic grill dishes, such as kebabs, steaks, and grilled salmon, this open air eatery, combined with the dual views of the beautiful lawn and sea, provides for an unparalleled dining experience.

Throughout the ship, I also noticed many other, less important, yet distinguishing features that truly exemplifies Celebrity’s motto of “Modern Luxury.” Walking down the corridors, many windows, rather than remain fully exposed, had quality, louvered blinds in place to block some of the bright sun as well as adding a distinguished look to what would have been a boring, plain corridor. Plain walls were often found to have been covered with semi-transparent curtains, providing a room or space with a heightened aesthetic look. Even standard hallways and alcoves feature unique paint schemes and flooring, transforming an unimportant space into a mini art gallery.

As I alluded to earlier, this ship feels unlike any other ship. Spaces that would have normally been untouched, spaces that could have been easily built without any extra touches, and spaces that could have been easily copied and pasted from earlier designs were taken the extra mile and then some. Th architects Celebrity has chosen, especially for the Solstice Class ships, knew they were creating a special ship. The design and features found aboard this ship, many features which are also found aboard earlier Celebrity ships, truly offer a unique departure from your typical cruise ship. Celebrity, in my opinion, has built a category of it’s own, a category known as “Modern Luxury.”
