Celebrity Cruises To Expand Lawn Club Concept

Today, Celebrity Cruises has announced the popular Lawn Club concept will be expanded throughout the Solstice Class fleet beginning in April.

The Lawn Club, which was launched aboard the Celebrity Solstice in 2008, is a “live grass” lawn located between the ship’s two funnels. The Lawn Club offers guests a unique space to hold a picnic, play bocce ball, or even attend a glass blowing show all on real, green grass. Now, beginning with the Celebrity Silhouette, Celebrity Cruises will launch their newest version of the Lawn Club: The Lawn Verandah.

Each Lawn Verandah will feature a small, “live grass” lawn, replacing the current teak wood decking. The new Lawn Verandah will offer guests the ability to hold a picnic, sun lounge on a towel, or simply experience the feel of live grass underneath their feet at sea.

The first ship to undergo the verandah transformation, the Celebrity Silhouette, will receive the new verandahs during her upcoming renovation this month.

Adding to the experience of having their own mini lawn at sea, each Lawn Verandah will feature a private riding mower, which can be used by each guest to keep their Lawn Verandah’s real grass at a specified height of three inches. Guests staying in Lawn Verandah will also find a number of lawn care products, which can be utilized to upkeep their lawn during their sailing.

In early February, five verandah staterooms aboard the Celebrity Equinox were transformed into the new Lawn Verandahs. At the end of the test sailing, guests staying in the five Lawn Verandah staterooms were asked to share their feedback on the new, personal lawns. One angered guest responded, “My stateroom neighbor was mowing his lawn at 4:00am! I couldn’t sleep!” Another equally angered guest exclaimed, “My neighbor refused to use his lawn care products and his dandelions spread into my verandah by day three!”

According to Celebrity, “The unprecedented expansion of the Lawn Club follows years of positive feedback from our guests. We are very excited to launch our newest aspect of the Lawn Club and hope our guests will be just as excited to experience our new Lawn Verandahs. We felt guests were beginning to miss feuding with their neighbors over their lawns, therefore we decided to bring the stress of lawn care and having a picky neighbor at sea.”
